Over 170 RC Aircraft at 4th Annual Independent Kamikaze Fun Fly Hilights August 27th 2011
2008 Kamikaze Fun Fly rained badly, still had over a dozen pilots show up and fly some.....
2009 Much better weather, over 20 pilots, and a great show of planes, over 50.
2010 3rd Annual Independent Kamikaze Fun Fly 35 pilots and 114 RC Aircraft!!
2011 August 27th, 45 pilots and over 170 RC AIRCRAFT Way to go everyone.
I started having this event in 2008 so all the great Independent guys of Kamikaze would be have an event of their own. Everyone has put in a lot of work over the last 4 years, everything from donating time and prizes, equipment and signage, to cooking over the BBQ in the heat and going to city park allocation meetings to make sure the Independents get their fair share of time at the park.
We all deserve a great park like Kamikaze and we will make sure this event continues. Next year is the 5th annivesary so somehow we'll have to top this years, numbers and events.
We had over 25 prizes to give out thanks to the following :
Racetech Hobbies, Go Go Hobbies, Norburn Model Aircraft supply, SN Hobbies, Seb's RC Shop and Mas Chibana, from Chibana electronics.
A huge thank you to all these local business and hope you can visit them soon.
Had our MAAC zone director at the event, Bill Rollins. He said he was very impressed with the turnout, and how many young people we had flying out there. Also dropped off some MAAC wear for us to give out as prizes, thanks again.
I did bring the turbine out just to taxi it around, but conditions were very good, so I put it up for a flight. Thing handles like it's on rails, slows down great, and picks the speed back up fast. I'll put the full flight of that up in another video.
Nice big bipe with smoke on it, one of our buddies showed up with, was another great hi-light of the show.
The RCSuperHero Green Lantern was patrolling the skies this year, and we had a few Strykers up at once this year too, 16 of them doing formation laps!
8 Habu were in our Scale Jet formation this year, and that was a site when they all did a loop at once. I'm told I'm going to get some cell phone footage to put up and see, and some pictures from various people as well, so get those in, so I can post them guys !!! LOL
Event wasn't without problems, parking issues LOL, also a few crashes of course, mostly on the Limbo event though hahaha One clip is of my Habu failing at the limbo as I touch down, even without gear, after the streamer DAMN haha I threw the contest, as I'm event organiser.
Last clip on there I loved doing, and watching after, is the quadcopter doing passes over all the planes out there on the runway. I'll have some panoramas of that to post up too. Amazing seeing over 160 aircraft on the runway at once. almost 10 more were still in the pitts, not assembled or not able to get them out there in time. Next year will be tough to beat 170, but we'll try.
What an awesome turnout guys, thanks a lot for making it a great event again this year. Next year we'll see what we can do about stepping it up!!
