New Star Wars The Force Awakens Characters & Details Revealed

May the 4th is here and with it comes new revelations and details on this December’s highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens! If you’re watching this, you’re probably aware that today is Star Wars Day and that means new details on the next chapter in the saga! In a new Vanity Fair cover story featuring newcomers Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and our favorite, BB-8, alongside original stars Harrison Ford and Chewbacca, we’re getting new looks at the 7th installment as well as confirmation of what we’ve suspected for some time. Girls star Adam Driver has long been speculated to be playing new baddie “Kylo Ren”, first featured sporting that much debated crossguard lightsaber from the first teaser, and a new photo showing him alongside a pair of First Order Snowtroopers confirms it. The scene takes place on the frozen plains of their secret base, which looks a lot like the ice planet Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back. In addition to the confirmation that Driver will be playing “Kylo Ren”, we’re also getting new info on Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o’s role. According to the article, Lupita will be playing a CGI character named “Maz Kanata”, who is described as a pirate who has a castle that features an assortment of quote, “Galactic travelers, smugglers and other assorted riffraff.” Though she is a pirate, it’s unclear which side of the Resistance, if any, she leans on. In addition to these two big reveals, we also get new set photos as well as a new look at Oscar Isaac’s Resistant pilot “Poe Dameron”. The photos were taken by renowned photographer Annie Lebovitz who was given a chance to visit the film’s set for the photo shoot. The photographs will be featured in the upcoming June issue of Vanity Fair, which will also include a first look at Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie as First Order officer “Captain Phasma”. Phasma is the mysterious chrome plated Trooper that was spotted in the latest Force Awakens trailer.
