I've been asked several times about how I power my cheapo FPV setup and how long I can power my video TX. I don't have goggles just yet so I've been using the 7" LCD display from the link above. It's battery powered and works great.
The goal of this test was to find out how long I could transmit video with my 800mA 2S LiPo. My initial thought was it would last about an hour, but you can see that it's actually much longer than that. I run a separate battery because I've read too many horror stories about noise coming off the main power system from the motors & escs. As you can see from the video you should be able to use a relatively inexpensive, lightweight battery to power your video TX way beyond the length of your flight battery.
My GoPro battery died before anything else, which was a bit of a surprise. So what I did was try to extrapolate the remaining amount of transmit time. I won't go into details here, but the video explains it. Let me know if anything doesn't make sense or is inaccurate.
