This summer’s Finding Dory sports a cavalcade of new and returning characters and we’re meeting them right now on Clevver Newsfeed! It’s time to get to know the characters of Pixar’s Finding Dory. One of the most anticipated movies of the year is easily Finding Dory and along with our title hero “Dory”, voiced of course by Ellen DeGeneres, and her adoptive family Marlin and Nemo, the film will also introduce a whole new batch of characters. The plot of the film centers on Dory suddenly remembering her real family and her quest to find them. Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton are set to voice Dory’s parents, named “Charlie” and “Jenny”. The pair are described as a loving couple who tend to bicker and from our first look at the couple, it looks like Dory takes after her mother. Another new character is “Destiny”, voiced by Kaitlin Olson, who is a whale shark that we saw in the trailer. Destiny is an old friend of Dory’s, but her bad eye-sight makes it difficult for her to function out in the ocean. Another character we spotted in the trailer is “Hank”, a grouchy octopus voiced by Ed O’Neill. He’ll be joined by his Modern Family co-star, Ty Burrell who is voicing a beluga whale named “Bailey”. Like many of the animals that Dory is set to meet along the way, he also has an impairment – he has trouble with his echo-location abilities. From the look of things, it sounds like a theme of the film will be overcoming any ailments you may have an embracing them as part of what makes you you. Two of the most interesting sounding of the new characters are “Rudder” and “Fluke”, a pair of East London gangster sea lions voiced by Dominic West and Idris Elba. Director Andrew Stanton told USA Today that when developing the characters, he couldn’t shake the thought of giving them personalities straight out of a Guy Ritchie movie and was a big fan of The Wire, so was excited to reunite West and Elba for the voices. While both actors are great at drama, they can quote, “do comedy like nobody’s business. They just ran with it. They played jolly and lazy really well.” Some other new characters include a non-verbal loon named “Becky” and her co-horts who will be the new version of the gulls in the film and a group of baby sea otters who Stanton says he knew he wanted to include, but explained quote, “The truth is, otters are quite vicious, but no one wants that to be true. So we didn’t follow that. The otters ended up being more successful as cute creatures that just stare at you. We knew the effect they have on people.” In addition to the new characters, we’ll also see the return of “Mr. Ray”, the spotted eagle ray and our favorite laid back sea turtle “Crush” and his son “Squirt”. Stanton promises lots more cameos, but says you may need to sit through the credits to see them all. You’ve been warned. So, who’s excited for Finding Dory to arrive in theaters on June 17th and which new character are you most excited to see in action? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to see how we ranked some of the previous Pixar movies. I’m Misty Kingma, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
