8 'Useful' Items That Were No Help Whatsoever

Don't you hate it when you've packed your bag for a quest/heist/zombie outbreak and the 'essential' items that should have been totally useful turn out to be completely useless? Save yourself the space, leave this junk at home and subscribe to Outside Xbox!
What could be more useful on a poorly lit mission than a flashlight, for instance? Except a flashlight is only as useful as its battery life, and all too often in games it's a variant on the HEV suit light in Half-Life 2. Which is to say, it lasts as long as a birthday cake candle in a hurricane, crapping out on you when you need it the most.
Then there's the Payday 2 thermal drill that the bank heist crew in Payday 2 keeps lugging to work, despite the fact that it breaks down every single time they try to use it. You think they could afford an upgrade with all those wads of heisted cash.
And I know you had your heart set on an awesome flamethrower, but your fun new firegun is just as likely to be a lemon, such as the flamethrower you eventually get in LA Noire, which has an effective range of about three feet, overheats in about 15 seconds, and will blow up if it gets shot in the gas tank.
Save yourself the space in your luggage and leave these items out, along with the Resident Evil rocket launcher, The Long Dark's cardboard matches, Morrowind's flying scroll and Silent Hill's oversized Great Knife, along with the single-use shiv from The Last of Us.
