All you Blade Runner fans excited for the planned sequel, we’ve got some good news and some bad news. In a recent interview with Variety talking about his upcoming film Exodus: Gods and Kings, director Ridley Scott revealed that the long rumored part 2 will go into production sometime next year and star Harrison Ford will return to reprise his role of android bounty hunter “Rick Deckard”, but expect to see someone other than Scott in the director chair. With Scott’s schedule busy for the next year working on the adaptation of author Andy Weir’s The Martian with an all-star cast lead by Matt Damon, Scott has decided to turn over directing duties to an as yet unnamed director, though he will remain on as a producer. Scott developed the sequel with the original film’s co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and says they have come up with a strong three-act storyline that he thinks makes sense and relates well to the first one. Though he said Ford is very much a part of Blade Runner 2, he did reveal that he won’t be the main star. Instead, the film will focus on the hunt to try to find Deckard with Ford not showing up until the third act. The original Blade Runner was released in 1982 to mixed reviews and was considered a disappointment unable to recoup its $30 million budget. It later gained acclaim thanks to home video and several theatrical re-releases that included alternate versions of the film. Though no official date has been set, a 2017 release seems likely. So who’s excited for a Blade Runner sequel and do you like the direction they are taking it or would you prefer the film focused more on Harrison Ford’s character?
