Front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. What's the difference? And which one should you buy? We head out to the DECA skidpad in Shepparton to put all three to the test.
Along with Australian World Rally Championship driver Chris Atkinson, we also brought along an example of each drivetrain layout.
A $29,990 front-wheel-drive Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo, powered by a 150kW/265Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, a $54,490 rear-wheel-drive Holden Commodore SS-V Redline, powered by a 304kW/570Nm 6.2-litre LS3 V8, and a $38,990 all-wheel-drive Subaru WRX, powered by a 197kW/350Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre ‘boxer’ four-cylinder.
Each car will tackle two tests twice, once with stability control on, once with stability control off.
Test One is a dry 90-degree corner, Test Two a wet high-speed emergency lane. This should be interesting...
