In part 2 of the Arkbird OSD/RTL system for FPV RC planes I take a closer look at the components of this system and how well it is constructed. I also set it up on the bench to make sure that all the functions are working before I spend time installing it in a model.
Observations so far:
Pro's:
- a very feature-rich set of functions
- "Fence Mode" is a great way to ensure you don't wander out of the intended flying area
- waypoint facility allows for pre-programmed flight
- configuration parameters can be changed at the field without extra equipment
Con's:
- the unit is quite a bit bigger than (say) the FY31AP
- build quality could be better (soldering, bent pins, damaged connectors)
- no ability to display an RSSI voltage
- no easy way to mount the GPS receiver
- lack of polarized connector for the current sensor
So far however, I'm fairly impressed and am looking forward to the test flights.
Stay tuned for part 3.
