GHOSTBUSTERS 3 To Continue Without Harold Ramis
How will the sudden passing of writer, director, and actor Harold Ramis effect the future of the upcoming Ghostbusters movie? There is no denying that Harold Ramis was one of the greats. He wrote and starred in some of our favorite movies, including the 1980's classics Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. So, it was beyond devastating to hear this week that he passed away from the effects of an autoimmune inflammatory disease called vasculitis. However, his passing has raised a lot of questions about the status of Sony's upcoming (but long in development) Ghostbusters III film, which was set to cameo Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler, the role he originated in the Ghostbusters films. Today, we are getting word that Sony is still moving forward with pre-production on the third installment. Although, The Office screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will have to re-work the script because a project insider is telling THR that "there will be some repercussions" due to the loss of Ramis. THR is also reporting that the new plot was supposed to have all of the original Ghostbusters (including Dan Aykrod and Bill Murray) making cameos to kinda pass along the proton packs to three brand new characters. However, this is the first news we've heard of Bill Murray's involvement. Up until now, we've only heard that Bill Murray was adamant about NOT returning to the franchise at all. Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman said back in July of 2013 that Murray had shown no interest in Ghostbusters III saying that "he's been carrying on his life in a different way, in terms of the kind of parts that he's wanted to pursue...I'd hope that he could be in this film. He could be, he might not be, I really dont know." And apparently because Murray wasn't budging, the studio had to move forward on the project without him. So, with Ramis' passing could Murray have had a change of heart? Ghostbuster fans sure hope so, and there might be reason to think that it's possible. Recently, at the Italian premiere of Murrays latest project, Monuments Men, the actor was asked if he would be in the new film and he said "We'll see...sometimes things come at you without thinking too much about it... they come, they keep coming." Now, this was translated from Italian, but if just a few weeks ago Murray is prefacing with a "we'll see" perhaps he would be willing to return, especially now since it would be seen as a really nice tribute to Ramis. Murray, who worked with Harold Ramis for many years on classics like Groundhog day, Caddyshack, Meatballs, and Stripes did release a statement after Ramis' passing saying "He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him." We will likely hear more updates on Ghostbusters III soon. Reitman is scheduled to meet with Sony in the next few days to determine what their next steps will be. Now, it's probably safe to say that most people are fans of the Ghostbuster movies , so when I sat down with the cast of The Monuments Men recently, I had to test their fandom a little. To see what I mean, check that out right here. But before you go, I want to know do you think Ghostbusters III should continue without Ramis and potentially without Murray?
