Here is a scratchbuilt foamboard motorglider that is fairly simple to build but gives great performance at high and low speed, under power or just gliding around. It is 45" long, has a 60" wingspan, weighs 850g all-up. With a 2200mAh 3 cell running a 2200kV motor and 6x4 prop flights of 30 minutes are possible using modest power settings. With more aggressive power usage and aerobatics 15 minutes is reasonable.
This plane is comprised of 5 pieces of foamboard, colored packing tape, and hot glue. Cost is under $100 and build time is 6-8 hours.
Look out for flight video, setup video, and build video coming soon!
See my other videos for build details on the Armin Wing, tubular fuselage, and tail section.
PARTS LIST: (more details will be provided in build video)
Readi-Board foamboard - the Dollar Tree stores in US and Canada. Other locations look for 5mm foamboard with very thin paper facing that can be peeled off easily with no solvent or effort.
Colored Packing Tape:
D2826-6 2200kv Outrunner Motor (this is my preferred motor for good power with a small prop, but there are many other options. Recommend 150-250 watts):
30A+ ESC (below is one example)
9G Servos (4 needed):
Digital and/or metal gear 9g servos are nice, particularly for elevator and ailerons, but optional.
Servo Lead Extensions (many options, below is one) 4 needed:
6x4 Propellers:
2200mAh Battery (many choices, below is my preferred):
