In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew heads out into the Nevada desert with Walkera representative Lucy Chen for a live demonstration of the gasoline-powered QL 1200 hexacopter drone. Fueled with a gas-oil mixture, the QL 1200 is capable of flying for up to two hours. The aircraft itself weighs 16 kilograms (35 pounds) and it is capable of supporting a 2 kilogram (4.4 pound) payload. The base aircraft design incorporates a 30x optical zoom camera. Its potential applications include emergency response and industrial inspection. The gasoline engine has an automatic starter, which can be initiated from the remote control. In addition to flying with direct pilot input, it also incorporates GPS waypoint-driven mission capabilities, for large-scale surveying operations. The gasoline engine has been imported from Japan and has fewer maintenance requirements than similar-sized engines.
