On paper, the Commander V2 FPV goggles by Aomway tick a lot of boxes. The large 45 degree FOV in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the bright 800x600 LCD screens, large IPD range, built-in well performing diversity receiver, the good looks, the internally wired fan (are you listening Fatshark?....), the convenient 2-4S operating voltage range - all these are very appealing.
Especially after the huge success of the Commander V1 goggles (I did not get them because I prefer 4:3), I was hoping for the Commander V2 to be awesome. But unfortunately they are not.
If you are looking for a TLDR, here is one for you: The blurry edges and the crappy foampad leave a lot to be desired.
Yes, if the goggles can fit on your face with the very thin foampad (10mm), maybe you gain some sharpness around the edges of the image. If you are using diopters you will probably notice this issue less. Or maybe the immersion due to the large screens is enough for you. But for me personally, having to place crucial OSD info strategically on the screen in order to be able to clearly read it, or having to physically move the goggles when entering the betaflight OSD menu to change settings, are a huge deal breaker.
Especially now that the Fatshark HD3 Core FPV goggles appear ever so often at a discount, things are not looking good for Aomway.
I was prepared to like the Aomway Commander V2 so much… but honestly, I can't. Maybe they suit you better - FPV goggles are a very personal matter anyway…
