In the cruel city of Gotham, Batman protects its fearful citizens from the psychotic rogues that plague its streets, sewers and skylines. In one of his bloodiest battles, The Joker took control of psych ward Arkham Asylum, unleashing its super-powered denizens upon the island. Batman eventually re-established order, but in the ensuing chaos, the master of terror, Scarecrow, was presumed dead, dragged under water with a barrel of experimental chemicals known as Titan.
The aftermath of Arkham Asylum resulted in the construction of a prison district in the middle of Gotham itself. It unsurprisingly didn't go well. In a final battle, Batman struggled with The Joker, who succumbed to Titan poisoning. The Joker's assistant/lover/punching bag Harley Quinn, swore vengeance on The Bat for taking away her beloved. It wasn't Batman's fault, but he got totally hung up about it.
During these ordeals, a mysterious figure known only as The Arkham Knight watched remotely from across the planet. The warrior has quietly made his way into Gotham itself, watching Batman from the shadows and starting a takeover of the city with his private army of mercenaries. With the former logo of Arkham Prison on his chest, what connection does he have to Batman?
