The C.H.I.P. performs about the same in the enclosure as it does out of it. For $49 (at the moment) you'll get the enclosure that includes the SD touchscreen, keyboard, battery and C.H.I.P. PC. That price will climb to $69 soon.
I like the idea of the CHIP computer. It's functional at $9 but really, really slow at the moment. My concern for it right now is that they are marketing it as something far more useful than it is at the moment. I do anticipate coming back to the computer component in the future when things are better optimized.
