SkyWatch Drone Insurance: Fly Safer, Pay Less

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew speaks with Ori Blumenthal, the Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of SkyWatch AI. The company offers per-use drone insurance, but with a key difference: in addition to establishing its rate based on the location where a user is flying, SkyWatch also tracks their drone's telemetry to determine how they fly – and offers discounts to safe pilots. In addition, it logs the number of insured hours flown and provides a discount based on that experience, as well. In addition, the SkyWatch app also allows the user to define a flight area using a polygon tool, in order to avoid specific hazards in the local area, such as busy roadways or heliports. The app is available for both Android and iOS smart devices, and even includes a flight module when piloting DJI drones: a custom interface that provides tips for safe flying – and lower insurance rates – in real time. After each flight, the pilot is assigned a safety score based on their performance, and high safety scores mean discounts on insurance for future flights.
