HUGE thank you to 'Good Times FPV' for a fantastic race!!
My current favorite FPV cam, Micro Eagle:
The best value cam I recommend. I recommend the RunCam variant because it's given me the fewest issues over the years:
The best CCD camera only because it has a larger lens on it. Not that big of a difference. If you're going to run this, just run the Micro Eagle unless you don't like CMOS:
My favorite small sensor CMOS cam. Not good for low light, excellent for daylight:
I recommend you stick to Foxeer and RunCam since they have the longest and pretty decent track records. Caddx is good but it's personally given me much more problems than the other so I personally don't recommend it just yet. However I do like the Turtlet split product the most of the split products. But in general, I do not like any of the split products.
Some excellent comparison videos from RCSchim: ,
I didn't discuss the other 1/1.8" sensor cameras because the other ones are either only B/W or have something else weird about them.
Note about the low light test:
None of the cameras from the low light test were my camera except for the Eagle. I watched 30+ pilots fly after they all fiddled with all their settings. What I'm showing you are the best and worst views from some of the top pilots in the world. Literally some of the VERY TOP TOP TOP pilots in the world! These people know what they're doing. Jet, Dolma, Bear, Cheif....just to name a few
Summary:
CCD:
Excellent at most lighting situations
Good light/dark transition, not best
Global shutter so no Jello, ever
Better contrast (goggle dependent)
Brighter image
Natural colors
Cheap
Good WDR
Low resolution
CMOS (small sensor):
Predator is lower latency, rest are more
Possibly sharper (goggle dependent)
Now have great HDR
With HDR, fantastic light/dark transition
Pixel shimmer is annoying
Awful night performance
Slightly dimmer, lower contrast view
Arguably better daylight performance over CCD due to amazing HDR.
CMOS (large sensor):
The best low light performance
‘Clearer’ view that looks far sharper
Excellent WDR/HDR
Larger lens weighs ~3-4g more
Larger lens is easier to break
Still pixel shimmer, but better than small sensor CMOS pixel shimmer
