In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew unboxes and sets up the PowerEgg drone from PowerVision. This drone features a unique, egg-shaped airframe that could be mistaken for a piece of modern art when fully collapsed. The kit includes two controllers: a conventional, two-joystick design, as well as the Maestro – which allows the drone to be controlled with one hand. Both connect to a unit called the “base station,” which provides communications links to the aircraft. The base station also serves as a mount for the user's smart phone on tablet. The app, called Vision+, is available for both Android and iOS devices. The PowerEgg features retractable landing struts, as well as a pair of ultrasonic sensors for altitude detection, as well as an optical flow camera. The primary camera is mounted on a three-axis gimbal and is capable of capturing 4K video and 12 megapixel still images.
