Today, JayMike takes you on a trip down Memory Lane, looking at some of the biggest innovations in football boots ever - all the way from the first football boot with screw-in studs, the PUMA Super Atom from 1952, to the modern day and the introduction of Nike Anti-Clog and adidas GLITCH. But, between 1952 and 2016 the world has seen many big milestones in innovation, and today we look at some of the biggest and most important innovations through time. JayMike looks at the very first adidas Predator, introducing grip elements for the first time in 1994. He also covers 1998 and the adidas Predator Accelerator with its anatomical Feet You Wear sole and the Nike Mercurial R9 from the same year with the worlds first synthetic leather upper. In 2002, Nike introduced the Mercurial Vapor I, built on the idea of a track spike for the pitch and also the first boot to weigh below 200g. In 2006, the Lotto Zhero Gravity went laceless and created waves in the community. It was followed by the first boot made entirely out of carbon fibre, the Nike Mercurial SL from 2008. After that, it was World Cup year in 2010, where adidas smashed their way back into the speed boot race with the release of the first adidas F50 adizero, weighing as little as 156g. In 2013 they lowered the weight even more with the adidas 99g, weighing - you guessed it - 99 grams. In 2014 the new age of innovation kicked off with knitted boots. The first mass released boot was the Nike Magista Obra with its Flyknit upper. Innovation continued in 2016 where adidas ACE16+ Purecontrol introduced a knitted, laceless upper - BUT also gave us Nike Anti-Clog to avoid mud sticking to your sole plate. Furthermore, adidas introduced their modular GLITCH boot, where you can interchange the inner and outer sleeve to match your boot wishes.
