For impatient - look below for each scene times (flight/driving/evening/indoors)
Video is in 4K format - select this if you want to see more details in each cam video.
Did some testing with new cameras. Had few more cams (Xiaomi Yi, older mobius, runcams, etc) but copter was already flying like brick with four props ;-)
No color correction/resizing done, all cameras kept at default where possible (see below), so at 4K video should show real resolution. Also easy to compare view angle. Sorry Mobius, you had less time compared to others, but i can't kill middle of screen all time ;-)
Changes from defaults:
- RunCam 3: 1080p 60FPS (50FPS option not available), FW 1.1
- GoPro 4 Black - 1080p SuperView, PT OFF, 80FPS in flying scenes/50FPS indoor. Everything else on defaults
- Mobius Mini lens B: 1080P 50FPS, bitrate high, everything else on defaults, FW 0.84
- Foxeer Legend 2 - latest available FW on FB (impossible to tell which number), 1080p 60FPS, WDR ON, exposure metering set to "Multi", everything else on defaults
- Foxeer Legend 3 - latest available FW on FB, 1080p 50FPS (no SuperVision - as it's just linear rescale/squash from 1920x1440 to 1080p), exposure metering set to "Multi", everything else on defaults
Scenes by time, breakdown:
00:00-02:44 - daytime, FPV flight in forest
02:45-05:34 - daytime, FPV flight in village
05:34-08:24 - early evening (sun is still high), FPV flight over trees/road
08:24-10:57 - evening, sun is barely above horizon, driving in car
10:57-11:46 - approx the same time, trees/sun/hilights
11:46-12:32 - sun is barely visible, city streets - hilight/WDR/shutter test
12:32-13:48 - sun just got down, late evening near river, almost static test - check white balance/WDR
13:48 - end - extreme test for action cameras - indoor test with moving objects (dog/cat)
My personal opinion and line-up:
1) GoPro. Still on 1st place, even after few years in service. Good dynamic range, working superview, perfect color balance. Wide choice of LUT's for use with ProTune and even low light performance is good enough. Cons - price, form factor, weight
2) RunCam2/Xiaomi Yi. I know, it's not in todays benchmarks, but i compared them in similar way (maybe i will find time to post results). Runcam2 - nice image, good white balance, WDR is balanced (unlike RC3), just too-oversharpened. And no 4:3 footage for later superview'ing in AE ;-) Xiaomi - nice all-around camera, very cheap and still performing nicely, with half-ported hacks from GoPro3
3) RunCam 3 - would be very nice, but WDR is set really too high. WDR OFF is way too low dynamic range, WDR ON is overkill, image is not natural and everything requires lots of tweaking in postproduction. Would be great cam if they released FW where you can choose WDR strength (else everything looks like after 90/90 on Shadow/Hilight plugin in Premiere)
4) Mobius Mini lens B. Would be great camera, but lens is way too narrow. Get wider lens - and for it's price and weight it would go almost to top... Problem - i do not know any good quality aftermarket mobius mini lens...
5) Foxeer Legend 3 - nothing good here. WDR is bad (but improved over Legend2), white balance is still off (but again, improved over FL2). SuperVision is useless rescaling (see ). 1080p 100/120FPS mode is unusable due to grain, some higher modes too. Maybe it's possible to get some good footage in 4K 4:3, but eh, this requires a lots of time editing. Overall - worse than RunCam2 and double RC2 price.
6) Foxeer Legend2 - About as useless as #808 keychain camera. Very poor dynamic range, white balance is completely off, heavy; oversharpened and overcompressed footage. Even on clear day hard to get something good (see for example ), while you can't get anything usable on evening. No indoor footage with this cam - for some reason it locked again. Usable as random weight instead of lead on plane - to archieve correct CoG.
RunCam Split should be equivalent to RunCam 3, confirmed on chat. Foxeer Cube should be equivalent to Foxeer Legend 3, so no superview also :/
