I am a big fan of Synology's products but they can be confusing especially for consumers new to NAS devices. Synology is working to make the consumer experience a little simpler with their new BeyondCloud line.
This drive is identical to the ds214se, but it comes preconfigured with hard drives already installed along with the Synology operating sysytem. Plug in power and ethernet, visit a website, and you'll have a working NAS drive in a few minutes.

The nice thing about Synology's products is that all run the same basic operating system, so everything for the most part works about the same across their product line.
