Matt Groening is no stranger to putting Easter eggs in his work. Futurama has a solid seven seasons, and with The Simpsons having been on the air for almost three decades, there’s no telling how many Easter eggs he’s hidden within all that animation. He’s even included Easter eggs in his newest show, “Disenchantment.” For this video, we’re taking a look at all of the references to The Simpsons and Futurama that are hidden away throughout the new series. Full discretion, there may be some mild spoilers ahead.
First we take a look at some of the clothing worn by the characters in Disenchantment. Elfo, Kissy, and King Zog are all wearing something that may be a reference to other characters in Groening’s shows. Next we skip to episode 2 where some familiar wigs sit in the background that look suspiciously like Philip J. Fry and Lisa Simpson. After that, we talk about all of the references to our good old, three-eyed fish friend Blinky from the Simpsons. There are three-eyed skulls, creatures, owls, and even people in the show that all harken back to Blinky. In fact someone’s third eye is even named after the character.
The last Easter egg we discuss is probably the hardest to find but is definitely the biggest one and has gotten the most public attention. We actually see characters from Futurama make an appearance in the show. How and when does this happen? Watch until the end of the video to find out!
