Normally I don't start with an apology, but this time I have to. Flying Heritage Collection is expanding and they have recently (like, this week!) begun construction on their second hangar. As a result, you get to hear the wonderful noise of a jackhammer throughout the video.
Thank you all for your continued support of my videos and efforts here at Paine Field in capturing these amazing aircraft. If you enjoy these videos, click on the links in my profile page to show support and help me show the best quality possible! Thanks again!
Anyway, this video features the first test flight of FHC's newly restored IL-2M3 since its arrival early this year. It is powered by an Allison engine from a P-38, so the propeller still turns CCW. Also, you get to see them run the engine on their Bf-109 E-3 'Emil' which is powered by an original Daimler-Benz 601. Enjoy, and stay tuned for even more warbird action coming in the next two days!
Who those who keep telling me (incorrectly) that this is an M3, check out this link, please: Also remember, this airplane was restored by Russians, some of which actually worked on IL-2's as children during WWII. I think they know what designation this is.
