RunCam Micro Sparrow 2 -
So in my last video I said I'd be flying the Micro Sparrow more in the future since I was quite impressed with it after the initial flight. I had a chance to fly at sunset recently, so here's some footage of that. The little camera didn't fail to impress once again! I forgot to mention it in the video, but the settings are all stock, apart from turning off the camera's built in OSD and selecting the "twilight" preset.
I usually get at least one question about my FPV/recording setup when I post a high quality ground recording, so I'll try to answer now... lol I use a 1500mW 1258MHz video transmitter in the plane, but it's overkill and I've been out just as far on an 800mW version of the same. I use ran Racewood video receivers using a Eagle Eyes ground station as a diversity controller, one with a pcb yagi antenna and the other with a 8db patch. A single receiver with the patch antenna would be fine, I only have the second to cover more area, usually pointing 45ยบ to one side if the patch. I recorded the video with an old DVD Xpress from ADS Tech, which does hardware MPEG-2 encoding. (unfortunately it requires WindowsXP, so I have the PC in my shed set up to dual boot that and 8.1) I then play that file back in full screen later and capture the display using OBS Studio and save that in MP4 format. My reason for that is to use the hardware deinterlacing built into my graphics card, which does a far better job than any software solution I've found to date. It also means I get interpolated frames at the full 59.94fps frame rate. (NTSC is 29.97 interlaced frame, or 59.94 if you use both fields when de-interlacing)

Here's some affiliate links to the video gear I use from Ready Made R/C:
1.3GHz video transmitters (I use 200, 400, 800, and 1500mW on various planes)
I recommend this receiver to go with them. I use an older Racewood type they used to sell, but these are supposed to be at least as good with the same Comtech tuners in them. Apparently Racewood is no longer in business, so here's what replaced them:
I use this 8dbi Patch Antenna, it has been my go-to antenna for a long time now, for years! lol I've been out more then 10 miles using one of these and the 800mW vtx listed above:
On the transmitter side, the stock dipoles that come with them work pretty good together with that patch, but if you want slightly better performance and less weight/drag, consider these:
