Subramaniapuram Tamil movie stars Jai, Swathi and Sasikumar in the lead roles. Directed and produced by M. Sasikumar under Company Productions, the music is by James Vasanthan. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Ananthapuram 1980 and in Kannada as Prem Adda.
Subramaniapuram revolves around five friends, Azaghar (Jai), Paraman (M. Sasikumar), Kaasi (Ganja Karuppu, Dopa (Vichithran) and Dumka (Maari). They become involved in petty fights and brawls, frequenting the police station. Their release from the police station is usually aided by their neighbor Kanagu (Samuthirakani) whose elder brother Somu happens to be a former councilor. Jai falls in love with Somu’s daughter, Thulasi (Swathi). Somu's inability to get elected for his party’s district Chief post causes tempers to flare at home and a distraught Kanagu shuts himself up in a hotel room, drinking and alternatively unburdening his travails to Kaasi, Paraman and Azhagar. The last two, more loyal than the rest, quickly devise a plan to the opposition by setting in motion a succession of events that culminate to a climax.
