FMS F-15 EDF Hand Launch Crash

I picked up a new FMS F-15 EDF because I’ve saw a video where it was being used as a belly lander. The tiny landing gear that comes on these small EDF jets can’t handle the thick, longish grass on our field so it was nice to find a cool looking EDF that I could belly land.
I flew the maiden and trimmed it out (almost no trim required). It flew great! It was faster than I expected given that it runs on a 3s 2200. The roll rate was excellent too. I loved the way it looked in the air!
When doing my landing for the maiden flight, I was going to do a flop landing but came in a bit too hot and just set her down like you would for a normal belly landing. The ailerons tore off. I guess that even though the aileron's control horns sit up quite high on the fuse, they must have snagged the grass and ripped off the ailerons.
The ailerons were easily repaired using Hangar 9 CA hinges she was back in the air. No more issues.
Finally, a nice day presented itself and it was off to the field. I gave the radio to Paul who is a friend and an excellent pilot. Paul was there to fly the F-15 for me so I could catch it on video. I launched it for him and he did a “getting used to it flight”. The flight went very well indeed. Time to do a video!
Paul was on the transmitter, I was on the camera and we had one of our buddies launch the plane.
As you’ll see in the video, the launch didn’t go as well as we had hoped for.
I’ll see if I can get her patched up and back in the air for the video that could have been……
Take care and happy flying!
Cheers,
Bob
