Do you have a MakerBot or other RepRap? Do you print with ABS? Are your prints warping on the build platform? If so, consider building an enclosure to eliminate drafts. Here is one way to build a DIY enclosure that is economical and works well. You can build this enclosure for $24 in parts. The acrylic sheets are available at Home Depot, and can be found in many stores online.
Materials list for the BusyBotz budget enclosure for the MakerBot Replicator:
11"x14" .093 acrylic sheet x 2 [Left and right sides] $4 each [$8 total]
18"x24" .093 acrylic sheet x 1 [Front] $10
Sterilite model 1753 15 Quart ClearView Latch Box [Top] $6
2 screws or bolts for front hanging cover
*** Total Cost: $24 ***
Cutting the plastic box: Cut a rectangular hole 3" (8cm) wide, and as tall as you need to clear the feed tubes. I cut mine all of the way from top to bottom, which provides 6 3/4" of vertical clearance.
Cutting the acrylic: Cut to size first, then hold in position and mark each bolt head with a marker.
To cut the acrylic, use a straight edge and score a line along your cut line. It is important to keep the score line straight, so take your time and make several light passes.
To make the holes, heat a nail and use it to melt each hole. You may wish to practice on the scrap pieces first. Remove the excess melted plastic so the covers will sit flat against your printer.
Tip on making the front cover: Install the two top bolts first, before marking the rest of the holes.
