Tired of watching amateur drone videos on YouTube? Enter the New York City Drone Film Festival (NYCDFF) — the world’s first ever awards for drone cinematography that showcases the finest there is in short films that make use of aerial video. The awards features 9 different categories that are judged by a select group of film and television professionals and is the brainchild of Randy Scott Slavin who founded the festival in 2014.

Submissions are judged based on innovative flight technique, aesthetic beauty and more. Among this year’s winners is renowned film maker Philip Bloom who won the Travel/Landscape award with his short film “Koh Yao Noi”. This year’s edition also saw one submission “Superman with a GoPro” tower over the rest by winning two awards — Narrative and Best In Show.

Submissions for the 2016 edition will open in August so if you’re an aspiring filmmaker with a talent for precision drone flying and a penchant for telling compelling stories, here’s your chance at drone film-making glory.
