Despite a lackluster response from fans to 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the franchise remains one of the most beloved and successful of all time. There has been much talk and speculation about Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas once again reuniting for a fifth film, but is the possibility of that happening now officially dead?
Talk of a fifth Indy film began circulating in December when Spielberg told Entertainment Weekly that he and Lucas had a concept and genre in mind for the movie, but were missing that all important MacGuffin, aka the Ark of the Covenant, Holy Grail, etc. Then, after the less than stellar box office of LucasFilm's Red Tails, Lucas announced he was leaving LucasFilm to focus on making "experimental movies" and was done with big studio blockbusters.
So, what does this mean for Indiana Jones 5? According to an interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall says Indiana Jones 4 will be the final film in the franchise stating that there is no idea or MacGuffin for a fifth film and none of the talent behind the film are particularly hungry to work on bringing the next Indiana Jones adventure to the big screen.
Sounds pretty final to us, but what do you think? Should Harrison Ford grab his whip and don the classic fedora one more time or was the disappointment of Indiana Jones 4 just too much to warrant another movie?
