The Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic is an exciting event that features two days of surfing contests at Makaha Beach on Oahu, where the waves are sometimes 20 feet high. It was created in 1977 by legendary Makaha surfer, lifeguard and premiere waterman, Richard “Buffalo” Keaulana, as a way to unite the Leeward Coast community. Showcasing traditional and new Hawaiian surf sports, the contest attracts watermen from all over the world. Let’s take a closer look at this thrilling competition.
