3D printers allow users to print 3 dimensional computer files into actual objects, depending on the material being used by the printer. One company leading the way for consumers is MakerBot and their Replicator 2x is in hot demand, most buyers wait 2 months after paying to receive it.
Finally got mine this week and recorded the opening, set up and test printing. It seems as if there is a fine line between only using these 3D printers for gimmicky creations only vs things people can actually use. Much of this depends on how well one knows a 3D modeling program. I have quite a few photography related designs I would like to make to actually use in my photo work, and I am realizing now that I will have to really learn one of many 3D modeling programs to make it happen.
The Replicator 2x is working great, its been going pretty much non-stop since Ive opened it, and most the prints are successful with a few hiccups.
Ill have much more coming over the next couple weeks as I get better with the 3D software. (I am using blender right now).
